Tiler Naru |Til aur Gur ke Laddu | Sesame seed Laddu | Til ke Laddu

Hello Foodies,

Wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, Lohri, Pongal & Bihu. Let’s celebrate the harvest season! In this very festive season, we are going to share a sweet recipe made of jaggery and sesame seed which is known as Tiler Naru in Bengali and in other languages it is called as Til ke laddu or sesame seed laddu. It is a traditional sweet made on the festive occasion of Makar Sankranti. A simple yet delicious sweet snack.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes

Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Yield: 10-15 laddu’s

Ingredients:

  • Sesame seeds/ til ~ 50 gm
  • Jaggery/ Gur ~ 100 gm
  • Peanuts ~ ¼ cup
  • Cardamom Powder ~ ¼ tsp
  • Water ~ 3 tbsp
  • Ghee ~ 1 tsp and some for greasing the plate and hands. 

How to Prepare:

  • In a pan dry roast sesame seeds till light golden in colour on a low flame. Keep stirring at intervals.Remove and set aside. 
  • In the same pan, dry roast the peanuts on a low flame till they get black spots on them. Remove and crush them coarsely using a grinder or mortar-pestle.
  • Now, in the same pan add water and jaggery. On a low flame, keep stirring the jaggery continuously and cook till all the jaggery melts.
  • Cook until the solution starts bubbling, wait for 2 - 3 minutes more and then switch off the flame and add the ghee, roasted peanuts, cardamom powder and roasted sesame seeds. Mix all the ingredients together properly.
  • Remove the mixture on a greased plate and when the mixture is still hot, start making laddus. Be careful as the mixture will be hot.
  • You need to start making laddu’s immediately while the mixture is still hot, once it cools down you may not be able to shape it properly.
  • Once all the laddus are made, store them in the air tight container.
  • Serve Tiler Naru in the festival of Makar Sankranti.
