Shorshe Dharosher Jhal (Sarso Bhindi /Okra with Mustard Masala Gravy)


Hellooo Folks,
Shorshe Dharosh is a delicious bengali dish which is made of okra with thick mustard gravy. This dish is sweet and tangy in taste. It is a very simple and easy to cook dish. It can be served with rice/roti.
Preparation Time: 10 mins
Cooking Time: 20 mins
Yield: 2-3 servings
Ingredients:
- Dharosh (okra /bhindi) ~ 250 gm
- Mustard seeds ~ 2 Tbsp
- Spring Onion (white) ~ 1
- Tomato ~ 1 small
- Green chilli ~ 1
- Ginger paste ~ ½ tsp
- Turmeric powder ~ ½ tsp
- Sugar ~ 3-4 tsp
- Panch phoron ~ ½ tsp
- Dry green chilli ~ 1
- Red chilli powder ~ a pinch
- Mustard oil ~ 1 Tbsp
- Salt to taste
- Water as required
How to prepare:
- Wash, soak and dry the okras. Cut the okra into 1” pieces. Chop the spring onion (white) and tomatoes and make a paste of mustard seeds and ginger- green chilli.
- Heat oil in a pan, add panch phoron and dry green chiili and let it sizzle.
- Add the chopped spring onion and saute till it become light golden in color.
- Add ginger - chilli paste and saute for 1 minutes. Add chopped tomatoes and saute till it become soft.
- Add dharosh (bhindi/okra) and saute for 2- 3 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder.
- Cover it with a lid and cook on low flame till the okras become soft.
- Add the mustard paste and salt and cook till it become little dry.
- Add sugar and red chilli powder, Mix it well with the mixture.
- Add required water, the consistency will be thick.
- Serve hot with roti / rice.
