Sabudana Kheer | Tapioca Pudding

Hello Foodies,

Tapioca Pudding or Sabudana Kheer is a famous Indian pudding which is mostly served in fasting day. This creamy smooth kheer is very delicious. It is one of the easiest Indian dessert recipes which can be prepared easily and it is easy to digest.

Soaking Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 2 - 3 servings

Ingredients: 

  • Sabudana / tapioca pearls ~  1/2 cup
  • Milk ~ 2 cups
  • Water ~ 2 cups
  • Sugar ~ 4-5 Tbsp or as required to taste
  • Cashews ~ 2 Tbsp, chopped
  • Raisins ~ 7- 8
  • Green cardamom ~ 4 - 5, crushed

How to prepare:

  • Wash sabudana in water and drain them. 
  • Cover and let soak sabudana in 1 cup of water for 20 minutes.
  • Chop cashews and soak raisins in water for 2 minutes. Crush cardamoms in a mortar- pestle to a fine powder.
  • Take a thick bottomed pan and add the soaked sabudana with the remaining water on a low to medium flame.
  • In the same time, heat milk.
  • After 4-5 minutes, add milk to the pan and continue to cook.
  • Add sugar and cardamom powder and simmer till the pearls have cooked well for about 20-25 minutes on a low to medium flame.
  • Stir occasionally and cook until milk turns thick.  
  • Turn off the gas.
  • Garnish with chopped cashews add raisins.
  • Serve sabudana kheer warm or cold.
