Hello Food lovers,

Pav Bhaji is a famous street food which is loved by every people specially kids. It is a simple and mouth watering dish which is easily prepared at home. As it contains a lots of veggies such as cauliflower, potato, beans, peas, capsicum ( green bell pepper), carrots, brinjal ( eggplant) it is nutritious too. The homemade bhaji is served with pav/ bread.

Preparation Time: 20 minutes

Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients:

For the bhaji ;

  • Butter ~ 2 Tbsp
  • Oil ~ 2 Tbsp
  • Potatoes ~ 4
  • Tomatoes ~ 4, chopped
  • Beans ~ 7 – 8 pieces
  • Peas ~ ½ cup
  • Cauliflower ~ ½ , cut into small pieces
  • Carrots ~ 2
  • Brinjal ( eggplant) ~ 2, small
  • Onions ~ 1 large, chopped
  • Ginger-garlic paste ~ 1tsp
  • Sugar ~ ½ tsp
  • Red chilli powder ~ 1 tsp
  • Pav Bhaji masala ~ 1 ½ Tbsp ( available in grocery shops)
  • Turmeric powder ~ 1 tsp
  • Tomato sauce ( optional) ~ 1 Tbsp
  • Cumin seeds ~ 1 tsp
  • Bay leaf ~ 1
  • Coriander leaves ~ For garnish

For the pav ;

  • Pav ~ 8
  • Butter ~ as per needed

How to prepare:

  • Pressure cook the veggies except onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers. Pressure cook for 2 whistles and remove pressure after 2 minutes.
  • Peel the potatoes. Roughly mash the veggies.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add bay leaf and cumin seeds, let the seeds sizzle.
  • Add chopped onions and saute till it become golden brown in color.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste, saute till the raw smell goes off.
  • Add the green chillies and tomatoes .
  • Cook the tomatoes for 6 – 7 minutes on low flame till it becomes soft.
  • Add the capsicums.
  • Add tomato sauce (optional), red chilli powder, turmeric powder, pav bhaji masala and sugar.
  • Mix it well and cook on low flame.
  • Add mashed veggies and mix it.
  • Add water and salt and let it simmer for 10 – 15 minutes. The consistency would neither be thick nor thin. Some more salt and pav bhaji masala can be added if required.
  • The bhaji is cooked well. Turn off the gas.
  • Add butter.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Now comes the pav, heat the tawa and add butter and it melts .
  • Place four pav into the melted butter.
  • Cook on a medium flame till they turn light brown and crisp on both the sides.
  • Serve the pav with bhaji and squeeze some lemon juice in to the bhaji. Serve hot and enjoy the delicious pav bhaji.
