How to make Rajma | Rajma Masala | Rajma Chawal | Spicy Rajma


Hello Foodies,
One of the most popular dish is the Rajma (kidney beans) which is served with chawal (rice) and dahi (optional), the best combo meal ever. If you love spicy vegetarian food, then here is the recipe for Rajma for all the foodies.
Preparation Time: 5 minutes | Soaking Time: Overnight
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Yield: 2 servings
Ingredients:
- Rajma ( kidney beans) ~ ½ cup
- Onion ~ 1 large
- Tomato ~ 1 large, 1 medium
- Green Chilli ~ 2
- Ginger paste ~ 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder ~ ½ tsp
- Coriander powder ~ ¾ tsp
- Pepper powder ~ ½ tsp
- Red chilli powder ~ ½ tsp
- Amchur powder ~ ½ tsp
- Sugar ~ ½ tsp
- Oil ~ 1 Tbsp
- Cumin seeds ~ ½ tsp
- Hing ~ a pinch
- Cinnamon ~ ½ inch
- Cloves ~ 2
- Cardamom ~ 1
- Bay leaf ~ 1
- Salt to taste
- Chopped Tomato ~ For garnish
How to prepare:
- Soak rajma in water overnight or atleast for 6 hours, drain the water.
- Pressure cook it with required amount of fresh water and ½ tsp salt for 4-5 whistles. Meanwhile, cut the onion into two halves use one halve for chopping and the other for making puree. Make a puree of tomatoes too. Make a paste of ginger and green chillies. Keep aside the boiled rajma with water.
- Heat oil in the pressure cooker add hing, bay leaf, cumin seeds. Then add the cinnamon stick, cloves and cardamom, let them splutter.
- Add the onion puree saute for 1 minute then add the chopped onions and saute till it becomes golden brown in color.
- Add the ginger-chilli paste and saute till the raw smell goes off.
- Then add the tomato puree and the spices and cook till the raw smell goes off.
- Add sugar and required salt.
- Now add the rajma along with cooked water and pressure cook for 1 whistle. Turn off the gas
- Garnish with chopped tomatoes and serve hot with rice and curd (optional)
