Bodi Curry with aloo and Chana dal | Long Green beans Curry with Potato and Split Bengal Gram


Hello Foodies,
One of the simple and delicious sabzi is the Bodi-Aloo-Chana dal curry. The combination of these three is ultimate. It compliments the taste of each other. Bodi/ Barbati/ Long Green Beans is accompanied with potato, chana dal, onions and some spices. It is served with Roti/ Paratha/ Rice.
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 25 minutes
Yield: 4 servings
Ingredients:
- Long green beans/ bodi/ barbati ~ 2 cups, cut into 1′ inch pieces
- Potato/ aloo ~ 1,medium, cubed
- Chana dal/ bengal gram~ 1/2 cup
- Onion ~ 1 medium, finely chopped
- Tomato ~ 1 large, finely chopped
- Green chilies ~ 2, finely chopped
- Ginger ~ 1′ inch, grated
- Garlic ~ 3-4 cloves, grated
- Turmeric powder ~ ¼ tsp
- Cumin powder ~ ½ tsp
- Coriander powder ~ 1 tsp
- Pepper powder ~ ¼ tsp
- Red chili powder ~ ¼ tsp
- Sugar ~ ¼ tsp
- Garam masala powder ~ ¼ tsp
- Cornflour ~ 1 tsp
- Panch phoron ~ ½ tsp
- Bay leaf ~ 1
- Salt to taste
- Water ~ as required
- Oil ~ 1 +½ Tbsp
How to Prepare:
- Soak chana dal in water for 10 - 15 minutes. Wash and cut the long green beans into 1′inch piece. Peel and cube the potato. Finely chop onions, tomatoes, and green chili. Grate ginger and garlic.
- Heat oil in pressure cooker, add bay leaf and panch phoron, allow it to sizzle.
- Add chopped onions and saute till they become golden in color. Add grated ginger and garlic, stir and saute till the raw smell goes off.
- Now, add the chopped tomatoes and green chili, saute till the tomatoes become soft. This takes about 5-7 minutes on a low to medium flame.
- Add long green beans, potato and soaked chana dal.
- Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, pepper powder, and sugar. Mix it well. Saute for few minutes.
- Now add cornflour, garam masala, required amount of water and salt.
- Close the lid of pressure cooker, cook on high flame for 1 whistle and after 1 whistle cook on low flame for 3 - 4 whistle.
- Turn off the gas. Let the steam release by itself.
- Serve warm with Roti/ Paratha/ Rice.
