Here  comes the “Bong dish” the famous and simple Aloo Chochchori which mostly goes with Luchi/ puri , a deep fried Indian flat bread for breakfast. This is among one of my favourite dish which i am going to share with you all.

Preparation Time: 5 mins

Cooking Time: 15 mins

Yield: 2-3 servings

Ingredients

  • Aloo ( potato) ~ 4 - 5 Medium
  • Paanch phoron / kaala jeera( kaloungi) ~ ½ tsp

  • Tomato ~ 1 small / medium
  • Green chillies ~ 2
  • Peas (optional)  ~ ½ cup

How to prepare:

  • Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut the potatoes into small pieces and pressure cook the potatoes with ½ tsp salt and sufficient water for 1 or 2 whistles. Let it cool by itself and keep it aside.
  • Chop the tomatoes and slit the green chillies and make a paste of ginger-garlic (which is totally optional).
  • Heat oil in pan and add paanch phoron/kaala jeera and bay leaf into it.
  • Add the ginger-garlic paste ( if using).
  • Add the green chillies, tomatoes and peas and cook till the tomatoes become soft.
  • Add turmeric powder.
  • Now, add the boiled potatoes and cook for 2- 3 minutes.
  • Add the boiled potatoes water and some salt as required ( Remember: we have already added ½ tsp salt at the time of boiling)
  • Let it simmer for 2- 3 minutes more, the consistency is thick, now roughly mash the potatoes in the pan with the spatula. Turn off the gas.
